is it better to use store bought kombucha for the Initial starter or to use a donated SCOBY?
I used store bought kombucha to start my current batches, but in the past I used a SCOBY that was already used in many batches. Is there a difference between using one or the other? Is one stronger and more potent and better for the future batches?

Does anyone else find it difficult sometimes to open old kombucha bottles after F2?
I had to use a towel and a lot of force to get my old kombucha bottles open after a few days of F2. For one of them I even had to use a wrench! I just couldn't get it open otherwise. I think it's because of the amount of carbonation, because even when I got it to move a little bit with the wrench, I still couldn't get it open with my hands, there was just too much pressure. Anyone else have this experience and a solution maybe? I would like to keep using my old kombucha bottles.

Yes! I am using old kombucha bottles with a narrower neck compared to bottles like GTs, and even got new caps for them, and it is so difficult to open them! I have to use a towel for extra grip every time! I thought that new caps would help since maybe the old ones are damaged or worn out in some way, but nope, no difference at all. But it's worth it to be able to use smaller bottles rather than the larger flip top bottles which are great but just not my preference. I also like the fact that I can open the screw top bottles a little bit at a time to let some carbonation out rather than all at once with a flip top bottle!

How long does home brewed kombucha last in the fridge?
I made kombucha and put it in the fridge less than a week ago, and it has a bit of a weird taste. It's as if the herbs I used to flavor them were left in and either lost their taste or have too much of their flavor, but they were not left in, I took them out. Is there a limit to how long kombucha can stay in the fridge? Does it matter if it was opened or not? My thought is that maybe because I opened all of them to taste, they lost their freshness?
